What is Fungal infection?

Fungal infection can affect anyone, and they can appear on several parts of the body. A jack with athletes foot, a baby with thrush of the body, and a woman with a vaginal yeast infection are just a few examplesMushroom , are edible. Other types of fungi, like aspergillus , can be extremely dangerous and lead to life-threatening diseases.



Different types of fungi can cause fungi infections. In some cases, fungi that are not typically found on or inside your body can colonize it and cause an infection. Other type of cases, normally, fungi are present on your body and can multiply out of control and can cause an infection



Fungal infection is a contagious infection, they can spread from one person to another. In some other type of cases, you can also catch disease-causing fungi mainly infected from animals or soil or surfaces.



Types

It consists of the following terms-

  • jock itch
  • ringworm
  • yeast infection
  • Toenails fungal infection

Athletes foot

It is also known as tines pedis. It can affect mainly skin on the foot , hands and nails. It is caused by the dermatophyte. It is a group of fungi that can thrive in the warm and humid areas between toes. It can spread from one person to another.



Symptoms

  • Itching
  • Stringing
  • Burning
  • Sensation between toes

Diagnosis

It is diagnosed by scarping , so a small area of the skin can be scraped off and tested for the fungus.


Treatment

It is treated by the anti fungal medication .




Jock itch

It is also known as tinea cruris. It is mainly affected by the groin area, inner thigh and buttocks. It is caused by the dermatophytes, a group of fungi that thrive in warm and humid areas.


Symptoms

  • Redness
  • Itchiness
  • A burning sensation
  • Skin color changes
  • Cracking skin

Treatment

It is mainly treated by the anti fungal cream, spray and powder.




Ringwarm

  • It is a fungal infection.
  • It is mainly affect by the skin and scalp.
  • It is caused by the dermatophyte.

Symptoms

  • Redness
  • itchy
  • Scaly rash


Signs

  • Thick, discoloured or a cracked nails.
  • Patches like a rings with a redder outside edge
  • Bald patches on the scalp

Diagnosis

It is diagnosed by the skin examination

Skin examination-fungus glows under a black light over the affected area. A small sample of the affected skin can also be scraped off and sent to a lab for testing


Treatment

It is treated by the anti fungal creams, spray, gel and ointment.



Yeast infection

  • It is fungal infection
  • It is mainly affect by the skin, mouth , gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract

Symptoms

  • pain
  • itchiness
  • clumpy discharge
  • swelling
  • redness

Diagnosis

  • It is diagnosed by the throat swab to rub the affected areas.
  • Throat swab look like a cotton bud.
  • Doctor sent a sample to lab .

Treatment

It is mainly treated by the anti fungal medication , like a pills or mouthwash.



Toenails fungal infection

  • It is also know as a onychomycosis ,
  • it is a common type of fungal infection
  • It is mainly affect by the toenails, fingernails and nail beds.

Signs

  • Scaling under the nails
  • White or yellow streaks under the nails
  • Thick or brittle nails

Diagnosis

It is diagnosed by the scraping , small piece of affected nail and sent a sample to lab, where the lab technician examine the scraping under the microscope.


Treatment

It is mainly treated by the antibiotic medication.
